Zimbabwe congratulates Uganda’s President-elect, pledges stronger bilateral ties

ZIMBABWE has extended formal congratulations to the President-elect of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, following his election victory, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries.

In a statement, Acting President Colonel (Retired), Dr Kembo Mohadi said Museveni’s re-election was a clear testament to the confidence Ugandans have in his tested leadership.

“Your election is a testament to the trust the people of Uganda have in your tested leadership,” the acting President said, as he joined Ugandans in celebrating what he described as an emphatic electoral victory.

Zimbabwe reaffirmed its intention to deepen and broaden cooperation with Uganda, citing the two countries’ shared history of friendship and collaboration. The acting President said Harare looks forward to working closely with Kampala to further enhance mutually beneficial relations in the years ahead.

He noted that cooperation between the two nations would continue to be strengthened at both bilateral and multilateral levels, particularly on issues of common interest across the region and beyond.

“As we join you in celebrating this emphatic verdict from the people of the Republic of Uganda, I wish to reaffirm my country’s commitment to deepen and broaden our two brotherly countries’ long-shared history of friendship and collaboration. We look forward to working closely with you, Dear Brother, to enhance and reinforce these mutually beneficial relations in the years ahead, at both bilateral and multilateral fora, on issues of common interest.”

The message also conveyed Zimbabwe’s best wishes for peace, prosperity and continued stability for the people of Uganda, while expressing confidence that the renewed mandate would further consolidate ties between the two countries.

Zimbabwe and Uganda enjoy cordial diplomatic relations rooted in shared liberation history and cooperation within regional and continental frameworks, including the African Union and other multilateral platforms.

President-elect Museveni won with 71.65 percent of the vote, defeating the main contender Bobi Wine, who received 24.72 percent of the vote, according to the official results.
