New schools set to transform education in Chisumbanje

RESIDENTS of Chisumbanje in Chipinge District have welcomed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new primary and secondary school, a development expected to transform access to education and improve the welfare of learners in the area.

For years, children from Matikwa have endured long and exhausting journeys to school, with some being forced to seek accommodation at Checheche growth point, exposing them to negative influences and various social challenges.

The new learning institutions, being established through a partnership between the Government and Green Fuel, are set to ease the burden on parents while creating a safer and more conducive learning environment for learners.

“We are happy with the initiative because we have been facing challenges like long-distance walks, but soon it will be a thing of the past,” a learner said.

“I am happy that, as girls, we will not be forced into situations to rent at the growth point, which results in a negative influence,” another learner said.

The project also reflects the Second Republic’s commitment to ensuring that no one and no place is left behind, as the country accelerates infrastructure development in rural communities in pursuit of Vision 2030.

“As said by our President, President Dr Emerson Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe is open for business, and Chipinge is welcoming all the investors to come and develop our community so that we leave no one and no place behind. We also have our projects in progress,” Chipinge Rural District Council CEO, Blessing Mamvosha said.

“GreenFuel is supporting the initiative by providing resources and creating employment opportunities for local people involved in the construction works, thereby enhancing household incomes and stimulating economic activity within the community,” ARDA board Chair Ivan Craig said.

The Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Angeline Gata, emphasised the importance of collaboration between Government, the private sector and local communities, as well as empowering citizens through job creation.

“We are grateful as a ministry to be partnering with Green Fuel in creating and shaping our future for tomorrow, which leads to national development. This is in line with the policy of the Ministry of Education for providing education for all,” she said.

Once completed, the schools are expected to reduce the dropout rate and give learners an opportunity to pursue their dreams without the hardships that previously hindered their educational journey.
