Zimbabwe announces strong swimming team for continental championships

ZIMBABWE has named a strong squad for the 17th Africa Aquatics Championships set for Algeria next month.

Record-breaking swimmer Paige Van der Westhuizen will captain the women’s team, bringing experience and momentum after setting a new national record in the 50 metres freestyle.

She leads a promising line-up that includes Anje Van As, Mikayla Makwabarara, Alexis Johnsen and Neema Bhulabhai, all of whom have impressed on the regional stage.

On the men’s side, Paul Mwipikeni will lead the team, alongside Ashley Berejena, Teak Watson, Connor Grist and Musawakhe Ncube.

The championships, initially scheduled for Ghana before being moved, will run from May 5 to May 10.

Zimbabwe’s campaign will be guided by coach Chido Mwachema.
