THE government has launched the 2025 Domestic Tourism Festive Season campaign, a move welcomed by players in the sector for promoting tourist destinations.

The campaign, launched in Kariba this Friday, comes after Zimbabwe was ranked as the number one tourism destination in 2025.

Riding on this Forbes Magazine recognition, the government is encouraging Zimbabweans to sample the country’s tourism offerings, hence the launch of the 2025 Domestic Tourism Festive Season campaign.

“We want every Zimbabwean to be a tourist in their own country. We are in the process of amending the Tourism Act to make it easier for families and individuals to travel, explore, and experience the beauty of Zimbabwe,” Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Babra Rwodzi said.

Tourism players in Kariba welcomed the move which comes with government’s deliberate move to decentralise national tourism events.

“We are excited because this brings more tourists and exposure to our natural beauty. It is also motivating young people to engage in tourism-related businesses,” Tamarind’s Public Relations Manager Mrs Vimbai Chimenya noted.

“Hosting such national events here in Kariba puts our town back on the map. It boosts hotel bookings, lake cruises, and local craft sales, which all strengthen our tourism economy,” the director of Kumabirira Resort Mr Patrict Kuona added.

“Decentralising events allows visitors to appreciate diverse attractions across Zimbabwe. It ensures that every province benefits from tourism revenue,” CUT Hotel’s General Manager, Mr Gibson Sibanda said.

Meanwhile, the “Zim Bhoo” campaign remains a key driver in marketing the country’s unique attractions, reinforcing the message that Zimbabwe is open for business.
