THE Zimbabwe Under 19 men’s cricket team is targeting to win their group at the International Cricket Council Under 19 World Cup which begins on the 19th of this month.

Zimbabwe arrived in South Africa on Wednesday ahead of the tournament that starts on the 19th of January and runs until the 11th of February.

Zimbabwe are hoping for a good start at the tournament.

Under 19 coach, Prosper Utseya said, “We have just arrived in SA where we have six warm-up games before our first World Cup match, the preparations are going well. Ideally, we aim to finish tops in our group which pits against second and third in group B to qualify for the semifinals.”

Zimbabwe is in Group C with heavyweights Australia, Sri Lanka and neighbours Namibia.

16 nations are taking part and are divided into four groups with the top three teams from each group proceeding to the Super Six stage of the competition.

Each team will play two matches in the Super Six stage and the top two teams will then progress to the semifinals while the rest will play placement matches.

Zimbabwe will open the day with an assignment against Sri Lanka before facing regional rivals Namibia three days later and will conclude the group stage matches with an encounter against Australia.

Zimbabwe finished 12th at the 2022 World Cup held in the West Indies.
