VICE President, General (Rtd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, on Monday represented President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the inauguration ceremony of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, held at the State House in Dodoma.
The private ceremony brought together African Heads of State, Vice Presidents, and diplomats, who witnessed President Hassan take oath of office for a new term under the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party.
Speaking to ZBC News on the sidelines of the event, Vice President Chiwenga expressed concern over the recent disturbances in Tanzania, but commended the nation for showing political maturity and resilience.
“We have seen the situation that has happened in Tanzania, and it is quite concerning because life, once lost, cannot be restored,” he said.
“However, I believe Tanzania has come of age. Tanganyika, before its union with Zanzibar to form Tanzania, is the cradle of the Bantu people, our motherland. It is also the mother of African liberation movements, having hosted and supported many of us during our struggles for independence.”
He added that Tanzania’s legacy as a beacon of peace and liberation remains an inspiration to the continent.
“We are confident that under President Hassan’s leadership, Tanzanians will come together, iron out their differences, and continue to move forward in unity and development,” the Vice President said.
