ZANU PF says the overwhelming response from the public in support of the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill is a sign of confidence in the leadership of President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa.
The Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill is set to enter the parliamentary stage, with its First Reading expected in Parliament this Tuesday.
Speaking during a media briefing at the party’s headquarters in Harare on Monday, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, said the party was encouraged by the level of public participation during the consultation process.
“The culmination of the 90-day period regarding Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 shows that we have worked hard as a party. We are happy with the work done by our teams across the country and the overwhelming response from the public up to where we are today. The democratic process undertaken so far shows the enthusiasm of the population and that people are happy with the work being done by our President,” said Ambassador Mutsvangwa.
The ruling party says the public response to the Bill reflects growing confidence in the country’s leadership and development trajectory under the Second Republic.
Ambassador Mutsvangwa also highlighted Zimbabwe’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, with elections scheduled for Wednesday.
“We keep our fingers crossed for the UN Security Council non-permanent seat elections slated for this Wednesday. It is a restoration of prestige. Since 2017, President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has brought success in every aspect and every Zimbabwean is confident despite the existence of illegal economic sanctions imposed on the country. Even Zimbabweans in the diaspora are walking with a spring in their step owing to the good work the President is doing, and the UN Security Council seat will bring Zimbabwe onto the global map again,” he said.
He said major infrastructure and economic development projects undertaken across the country, including the construction of roads and dams as well as value addition and beneficiation in the mining sector, have strengthened public confidence and positioned Zimbabwe within global economic value chains.
