BULAWAYO – THE transformative Land Tenure Implementation Programme launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa was this Wednesday taken to Bulawayo where the critical role played by land in unlocking generational wealth took centre stage.

The second edition of the Land Tenure Leadership Success Series organised by Young Women for Economic Development was held at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) where young people came in their numbers to witness the unpacking of the Land Tenure Implementation Programme.

Chairperson of the Land Tenure Committee, Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei said empowering young people with land is critical in promoting the country’s economic transformation.

“Land is the cornerstone for generational wealth so empowering youths with land is important in promoting economic development.”

With the nation on a drive to regain its status as the breadbasket of Africa, a number of speakers emphasised the need for young people to establish themselves in the agriculture value chain.

“The demand for land is ever increasing. We cannot all own it but can benefit from it by establishing ourselves in the agriculture value chain,” ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Cde Munyaradzi Machacha said.

“This programme is important because by empowering youths with land, we are securing and safeguarding our natural resources,” ZANU PF Bulawayo Chairperson, Cde Jabulani Sibanda added.

The Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services Honourable Tatenda Mavetera implored youths to leverage on digital technologies to transform the agriculture sector.

“It is our duty as young people to transform the agriculture sector through leveraging on digital technologies,” she said.

The Land Tenure Implementation Programme seeks to boost agriculture productivity and improve livelihoods to drive economic growth towards Vision 2030.

As part of efforts to ensure young people have a starting point in their various farming ventures, 15 children of war veterans under 30 each received US$15 000 worth of loans.
