MATABELELAND South Youth League has become the latest to benefit from the ZANU PF-led government youth empowerment drive after receiving a new consignment of agricultural equipment to strengthen young farmers’ participation in national food production.

The development comes as the 2025/26 summer cropping season begins, marking another milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to promote youth inclusion in agriculture and rural development.

Members of the Youth League expressed optimism that the equipment would enhance farming efficiency and productivity, contributing to Zimbabwe’s food security goals. One of the beneficiaries, Cde Lance Phiri, a young farmer from Umzingwane, said the support would make a significant difference in improving his yields.

“I am so grateful, I have been crying to have this kind of equipment at my plot so that I can continue to produce. It shows that our President loves us,” he said.

“This is the recognition that the youths should lead in production because we are the future leaders. We are grateful to the President for fulfilling his promise, and the rain season is upon us, and we are ready to produce,” Youth league Provincial member, Cde Stabile Ndlovu said.

The six tractors, with planters, ploughs, discs, boom sprayers, and trailers, are a major boost to productivity and food security efforts, demonstrating President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s commitment to youth-led agricultural transformation.

“The President does not only speak but does, we received cattle, we are processing the 10 hectares plots and now we got the tractors, this will make us complete farmers and as the youth League we are grateful,” ZANU PF Matabeleland South Provincial Youth League Chairperson, Cde Moses Langa said.

“This is a clear demonstration that the President believes in the youth and they should take the mantle, now that they have been empowered, let them be productive and make Matabeleland South great,” Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Albert Nguluvhe, said.

The equipment is part of the government’s many empowerment initiatives, which include land, heifer, goat, and poultry pass-on schemes meant to increase youth participation in agriculture and contribute towards national economic growth.
