WESTGATE Industrial Training Centre in Bulawayo will host the Technical Education Sports Association (TESA) cluster’s sub-association games from April 5 to 8, marking the build-up to the annual Zimbabwe Tertiary Sports Games.

The four-day Easter competition will see technical education institutions across the country competing in athletics and ball games, ahead of the national competitions scheduled for early May.

TESA president Lorraine Nguluvhe assessed the venue’s readiness, confirming final preparations were underway.

“We are working around the clock, and we are now making the final touches. We expect our learners to be trooping here on Friday. We will have our athletics at White City Stadium on April 5 and 6, then ball games on April 7. We are excited to be hosting, but we need to mount a serious challenge this year,” she said.

Zimbabwe Teachers College Sports president Andrew Moyo said the competition would draw around 1 000 athletes.

“We are expecting a population of 1 000 athletes. As teachers’ colleges, we have been giving it our all in national competitions, so we want to maintain that in this edition,” he said.

Westgate last hosted the TESA games in 2016.

Vice Principal Tawanda Chikotsi expressed gratitude for the hosting opportunity and highlighted lessons learned from previous editions.

“As Westgate, we are honoured to be hosting the eleven polytechnics. We had our lessons from the last edition, and we have enacted a local organising committee that we believe will stage a memorable event,” he said.

The sub-association games will serve as a precursor to the national competitions scheduled for early May.
