Vice President Colonel (Rtd) Kembo Mohadi has stressed the need for value addition and beneficiation in the mining value chain.

He said this as he addressed the leaders’ talk on achieving Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 through sustainable mining during the just-ended High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships and the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum in Bali, Indonesia.

Vice President Mohadi said Zimbabwe is capacitating small-scale gold miners through the provision of equipment for mineral processing, and setting up centralised gold service centres.

He added that with the mining sector accounting for 16% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product, the government is putting in place measures to sustainably extract minerals in ways that create an impactful transformation, alleviate poverty and strengthen Zimbabwe’s economic development.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe and Indonesia have two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in the area of health on the sidelines of the forum.

The MoUs in health between the Ministry of Health and Child Care and Indonesia’s Health Ministry, as well as the agreement between the National Pharmaceutical Company (NatPharm) and Indonesia’s Biopharma Group on cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector, are aimed at strengthening the two countries’ health care sectors.
