ZIMBABWE is hosting the United Nations Tourism Committee on Tourism and Sustainability meeting in Victoria Falls from Monday, bringing together global tourism stakeholders to advance sustainable development and resilience in the sector.

The high-level gathering comes as countries intensify efforts to align tourism growth with environmental sustainability, economic inclusion and community empowerment.

A key highlight of the meeting is the unveiling of the official logo for the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism 2027, which will be commemorated by the United Nations General Assembly.

The launch of the logo marks an important milestone in preparations for the global observance, signalling a shift from planning to implementation.

Delegates are reviewing progress made towards the 2027 initiative, with discussions focusing on how tourism can more effectively contribute to economic development, environmental stewardship and social inclusion.

Central to the deliberations is the development of a comprehensive roadmap that will guide the implementation of the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism.

The roadmap is expected to set global priorities, strengthen international partnerships and promote policies aimed at enhancing resilience across tourism destinations worldwide.

Running until Tuesday, the Victoria Falls meeting is seen as a significant step in building international consensus and momentum around sustainable tourism.

Its outcomes are expected to help shape future global tourism policy and reinforce the sector’s role as a driver of inclusive and sustainable growth.
