BANGLADESH levelled the three-match T20 International series against Zimbabwe with a 34-run victory over the Chevrons at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Friday, forcing a winner-takes-all decider.
The visitors bounced back from defeat in the opening match to square the series 1-1, with the final encounter scheduled for Sunday.
After winning the toss, Zimbabwe opted to field, but Bangladesh recovered from the early stages to post a competitive 186 for 5.
The Chevrons’ task was made harder by costly fielding lapses, with five dropped catches allowing Bangladesh to build key partnerships. The return of leg-spinner Rishad Hossain also strengthened the visitors’ grip on the contest.
Despite determined contributions from Milton Shumba, Brian Bennett and Dion Myers, Zimbabwe were restricted to 152, handing Bangladesh their first T20 International victory after five consecutive defeats.
Zimbabwe bowling coach Quinton Friend said missed opportunities in the field proved decisive.
“When you drop five catches, you are immediately at a disadvantage. It was a disappointing performance considering all the hard work we have put in. We will go back to the drawing board and make sure we come back stronger in the last game,” he said.
Player of the Match Mohammad Saifuddin said Bangladesh had responded well after losing the series opener.
“It was a tough match for us, and this win was very important after losing the first game. Sometimes we struggle in different conditions, but today we corrected our mistakes and performed well,” he said.
The two sides return to Queens Sports Club on Sunday, with the winner of the third and final match set to claim the series.
