A Republican lawmaker has introduced a resolution to amend the United States (US) Constitution to allow the US president to be elected for up to three terms.
The move is aimed at facilitating a third term for President Donald Trump.
Introducing the resolution in the House, Congressman Andy Ogles argued that the amendment will allow President Trump to serve three terms and sustain the bold leadership for America.
After his victory in the 2024 US presidential election, Trump insinuated that he would want to run for a third term.
The 22nd Amendment to the US constitution says: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”
To amend the US Constitution, it requires the support of two-thirds of the House and Senate to kick-start the process.
Meanwhile, Trump has pardoned 23 anti-abortion activists, including some convicted of blockading a reproductive health clinic and intimidating staff and patients.
The pardons were issued a day before March for Life, an annual anti-abortion rally in Washington DC.
Again in the US; a judge has temporarily blocked Trump’s order to change birth right citizenship, which was slated to take effect in February.
The challenged order is among the executive orders signed by Donald Trump on the day of his inauguration.
