Cde Mupamhanga’s body to lie in state in Matepatepa

THE body of national hero Cde Justin Mupamhanga has been taken to his rural home in Matepatepa where it will lie in state before being flown back to Harare on Saturday ahead of burial at the National Heroes Acre on Monday.

Cde Mupamhanga, who died this Wednesday, joined the liberation struggle in Mozambique in 1975.

The national hero held key positions in the then Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and ZANLA commissariat and education departments.

After independence, Cde Mupamhanga had a distinguished civil service career after joining the Economics Division of the President’s Department in 1983.

He rose through the ranks, establishing and heading the economics branch, serving as Minister Counsellor at Zimbabwe’s Diplomatic Mission in London, and later becoming Deputy Director in the President’s Department.

His impressive career culminated in his appointment as Secretary for Energy and Power Development.

Cde Mupamhanga also played a critical role in the implementation of government programmes when he was appointed Deputy Chief Secretary Responsible for Monitoring and Evaluation in the Office of the President’s Office.
