Three in court over alleged US$30k fake stand deal in Mabelreign

THREE Harare men have appeared before the courts facing fraud charges after allegedly duping a 55-year-old home-seeker of US$30 000 in a suspected bogus property transaction.

The accused, Regis Maguva (42), Samson Levison (52), and Micheal Mataka (52), are alleged to have sold a non-existent residential stand in Mabelreign to Mr Kenneth Nakoma.

According to the State, Nakoma responded to a Facebook advertisement for a residential stand in Mabelreign and paid US$30 000 to the trio.

The alleged fraud came to light when Mr Nakoma engaged contractors to construct a security wall at the site. The workers were reportedly stopped by other individuals who also claimed ownership of the same property.

Seeking clarity, Mr Nakoma approached the Mabelreign District Council offices, where he was informed that the stand number reflected on his agreement of sale did not exist.

The three accused were denied bail and remanded in custody. They are expected to return to court on April 28.
