Dynamos eye strong comeback after unbeaten opening run

HARARE giants, Dynamos FC, are rediscovering their rhythm, going unbeaten in their opening three league matches in a promising start to the 2026 campaign.

The turnaround marks a stark contrast to last season, when the Glamour Boys narrowly avoided relegation on the final day, with Kelvin Kaindu guiding the club to safety.

Now, under the stewardship of returning coach, Genesis Mangombe, a new chapter is unfolding at DeMbare, with the team collecting seven points from a possible nine.

Club Chief Executive Officer, Desmond Bvute, said the focus is firmly on rebuilding and improving from last season’s struggles.

“We have been working quietly behind the scenes. We managed to acquire seasoned players, some from as far as West Africa. We got a guy from Ghana, a defender, Netty, the goalkeeper from Cameroon. So, from within, we managed to get players who showed a bright future last season, and I think we are good in terms of the matches that we have played. I think with time, you will find out that after three or four games, we will be able to build a formidable side. So, we are very happy with the progress so far.”

Mangombe has already shown tactical acumen, making decisive substitutions that secured a crucial away victory against Bulawayo Chiefs, with players like Jairos Kasondo and Frank Agyemang making an impact.

“It also boosts confidence, but it is still game on. It is still early stages of the season and we still have a lot of homework. I think we need to correct a lot of things and then we will have a team later, possibly after match day 10,” Mangombe said.

Attention now shifts to their next assignment against struggling Agama, as Dynamos aim to maintain momentum.

“Difficult game again, but we will try and prepare for it. We only have a day to train, so we will try and manage the load for travelling and we need proper recoveries so that we have the proper energy in the game.”

With 22 league titles and a historic appearance in the CAF Champions League final in 1998, Dynamos remain Zimbabwe’s most decorated football club, and early signs suggest a potential return to their former glory.
