THE fourth edition of the Intra-Ministerial Sports Gala, organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development, has begun at Mushagashe Vocational Training Centre in Masvingo.

The week-long event, which ends on Friday, has drawn participants from provinces across the country and is aimed at promoting workplace wellness, team building and interaction among ministry staff.

Competitors will battle for honours in a range of sporting disciplines, including football, netball, volleyball, pool and tug of war.

Mashonaland East team captain, Ms Nyembesi Mukasvanga, said her side was eager to make a strong impression at the tournament.

“We are confident of a good outing. These games are important because they allow us to interact, network and improve our overall wellness,” she said.

Mashonaland Central representative, Ms Chinhema Bertha, said the competition provides an important platform for agricultural extension workers to maintain their physical fitness while strengthening professional relationships.

“We are ready to compete, and we are grateful to the organisers for introducing these games, which help keep us fit and healthy,” she said.

Deputy Director for Gender Mainstreaming, Inclusivity and Wellness in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Water Resources Development, Ms Niki Gundidza, said the sports gala aligns with the Public Service Commission’s drive to promote employee health and well-being.

“These games are an important part of promoting workplace wellness, inclusivity and staff cohesion across the ministry,” she said.

The annual event has become a key fixture on the ministry’s calendar, fostering camaraderie and encouraging a healthy work-life balance among employees.
