POLICE have arrested four suspects in connection with a stock theft case after they were caught allegedly offloading a stolen beef carcass at an unlicensed butchery in Harare.

In a statement on their microblogging site handle, X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said Kudzai Madamombe (23), Natasha Madamombe (29), Claudious Ndamabani (22) and Simon Mukaro (29) were arrested on April 24 in Retreat, Waterfalls.

The suspects were apprehended while allegedly offloading a beef carcass from the boot of a Honda Fit vehicle at an illegal butchery.

“Police investigations have since established that the carcass had been stolen from Beatrice,” ZRP said.

The arrests form part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat stock theft, which remains a significant challenge for livestock farmers across the country.

Meanwhile, police in Gwanda are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian on April 24.

The incident occurred along Sudan Street when an unidentified motorist struck a 43-year-old man who was attempting to cross the road.

The victim sustained severe head injuries and died at the scene.

“The motorist did not stop after the accident,” ZRP said.

Police have appealed for information that could assist in identifying the driver involved as investigations continue.
