South Africa dent Zimbabwe’s Billie Jean hopes

The Zimbabwe ladies tennis team has failed to progress to the Billie Jean Cup Euro-Africa Zone Group two after a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in Nairobi, Kenya this Wednesday.

Zimbabwe started on a bright note with top seed Rufaro Magarira winning her match to give the team a 1-nil lead.

Sasha Chimedza, however, failed to emulate her teammate after falling 7-5, 6-1 to Gabriella Broadfoot.

Magarira and Chimedza then teamed up looking for nothing short of victory in the doubles to progress to the next round.

They however went down 6-2, 7-6 to South Africa.

Although the team’s hopes of advancing to the next round were dashed, they now focus on playing for ranking points.
