ZIMBABWE’S Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill of 2026 is being widely backed as a key instrument to advance the country’s national development agenda, with public hearings concluding on Thursday after drawing significant participation across the country.
The proposed legislation has attracted support from individuals, civil society organisations and former opposition political members, reflecting growing endorsement of the inclusive law-making process.
“I support this Bill because it brings stability. We need leaders to finish what they start,” said a former opposition political member.
“To me, it is a good move. If it helps government plans to continue without interruptions, then I agree with it,” another former opposition political member said.
“What I like is that they asked people first. These public hearings are important, so yes, I support it,” a former opposition political member added.
Chairperson of One Home for Economic Development, Mr Welcome Shumba, also expressed support for the Bill, citing its potential to sustain ongoing development initiatives.
“We are in support of the Bill, we need our President to continue with all the projects he has started. If we continue with the issue of elections, we risk underdevelopment,” he said.
The nationwide outreach programme provided citizens with an opportunity to present their views on the proposed amendments, with sessions recording overwhelming attendance.
The views gathered during the hearings will now be compiled and submitted to Parliament for consideration as part of the legislative process.
