ZANU PF Politburo member Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi has stated that the proposed term extension for President Emmerson Mnangagwa aims to stabilise the party and ensure the continuity of national development programmes initiated under the Second Republic.
Addressing the final ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting of the year, held in Karoi on Sunday, Cde Ziyambi explained that the proposal, adopted as Resolution Number One at the party’s recent National People’s Conference, seeks to reduce political disruptions and allow sustained focus on development.
“The proposed term is about safeguarding stability and continuity in our national development agenda. As a party and as a country, we have learned that perpetual election mode diverts energy, resources and focus away from service delivery and long-term planning. This measure is therefore meant to stabilise the nation, create policy certainty and allow government at all levels to fully concentrate on implementing programmes that improve the lives of our people. When we are constantly campaigning, development slows down, but when there is stability, projects are completed on time, and the developmental trajectory we have set under Vision 2030 can be sustained without unnecessary disruptions,” he said.
The provincial leadership led by Chairperson Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka rallied members to be true ambassadors of the party while maintaining discipline and unity.
“The task before us as party members is to remain united and focused on development. Unity is the foundation upon which progress is built, and divisions only weaken our collective strength. I urge all cadres to be ambassadors of peace, discipline and the party’s development agenda in our communities, workplaces and public spaces. Let us speak with one voice, defend the gains we have made and demonstrate through our actions that we are committed to transforming livelihoods and uplifting our province. When we are united and development-oriented, the people will continue to trust and support us,” she said.
“From our provincial target of 17 000, we are now at 14 724 verified cells, translating to 745 600 members. We are continuing with our cell verification, and most interestingly, we are excited that we are digitising the cells so that we put an end to manipulation. The rise in numbers proves that our party is growing and attracting new members because of various developments ushered in by President Mnangagwa,” ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial Political Commissar, Cde Joachim Yotamu said.
Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo, gave an update on the state of developmental projects in the province.
“Key achievements include a 96.8% increase in maize production with over 587 000 metric tonnes harvested, delivery of 106 million kilograms of tobacco, wheat output exceeding 190 000 metric tonnes, significant growth in soya beans, and progress under the Pfumvudza/Intwasa programme with over 2.18 million plots prepared. Mining remained a major growth pillar, producing 3 770 kilogrammes of gold, 159 290 tonnes of chrome and 7 713 kilogrammes of PGMs, alongside the commissioning of the Zimplats smelter, a 35MW power plant in Chegutu, and the capacitation of over 1 500 artisanal miners. Infrastructure development saw over 1 132 kilometers of roads maintained and 39.5 kilometres reconstructed, while manufacturing capacity utilisation averaged 45%, supported by new investments,” she said.
Meanwhile, the PCC commended President Mnangagwa following the appointment of Sanyati legislator and ZANU PF Central Committee member, Honourable Polite Kambamura, as Minister of Mines and Mining Development.
