ZANU PF Manicaland Province has reaffirmed Chipinge District’s decision to recommend the co-option of Presidential Investment Adviser, Dr Paul Tungwarara, into the party’s Central Committee.
The decision was made during an extraordinary provincial meeting held in Mutare on Sunday, where the province revisited its recommendation after concerns were raised over potential procedural issues that may have been overlooked.
“We made a recommendation on the central committee co-option, and we received a letter from National Commissioner Cde Munyaradzi Machacha on the nullification of the co-option of Cde Tungwarara. The circular says the replacement should come from Chipinge District. Manicaland should conduct another PCC meeting following the guidelines. We wrote to Chipinge district after receiving the letter. The district responded and has nominated Cde Tungwara,” ZANU PF Manicaland Provincial Chairperson, Tawanda Mukodza said.
Central committee members from Chipinge, who attended the PCC meeting, reaffirmed Dr Tungwarara’s recommendation, citing that it reflects the will of the people of Chipinge and appealed for authorities to uphold their recommendation.
“We are in support of the co-option of Cde Tungwarara,” a party member said.
“As Chipinge, we are convinced that Dr Tungwarara is our hero from our district,” another member said.
“He is our child, and we are not going to change our position. We support the co-option of Cde Tungwara as Chipinge,” one of the district leaders said.
Following the tabling of Chipinge’s recommendation, several other party members seconded the motion in support of Dr Tungwarara’s co-option into the Central Committee.
“We accepted the decision taken by Chipinge. Manicaland has adopted the position by Chipinge,” ZANU PF Central Committee Member, Cde Esau Mupfumi said.
“We support Chipinge, and we should remain united. We request the party leadership to uphold our decision for development to continue in our province,” ZANU PF Central Committee member, Cde Kerenia Uta Chimuso said.
“The position by Chipinge is a provincial position. We appeal to our leadership to accept our decision as Dr Tungwarara was born in Chipinge,” ZANU PF Central Committee Member, Cde Admire Mahachi said.
“I want to thank you for your unity, but I want to thank our president, Mnangagwa, for allowing young people to hold influential positions within the party and government. We are saying congratulations to the advisor because we know that our leadership will accept our decision,” ZANU PF Central Committee Member, Advocate Misheck Mugadza said.
The ZANU PF PCC meeting was characterised by music and dance as party members rallied behind Dr Tungwarara’s proposed co-option into the Central Committee.
