President Mnangagwa visits Dubai Multi-Commodities Centre

Story by Josephine Mugiyo, Diplomatic Correspondent in Dubai

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has visited the Dubai Multi-Commodities Centre (DMCC) to appreciate the marketing and trading of various products, including minerals, gas and agricultural produce.

With Zimbabwe seeking to grow its economy, accessing the right markets for the country’s products and services has become imperative.

Established in 2002, the DMCC is a company under the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government which provides a platform for the trading of various commodities.

President Mnangagwa said the visit gave him insight on how best the country can market its minerals.

“It’s important that I’ve been exposed to the process of how minerals are marketed. We now know how best we should market our minerals and get maximum value from them.”

With Zimbabwe and the UAE enjoying strong trade relations, the Head of State said the Second Republic will continue to work with such friendly countries.

“It’s critically important to work with countries like UAE who have not imposed sanctions on us. This is the region where we must market our products and trade because they are not quarrelling with us,” said the President.

Meanwhile, Elite Agro Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Abdulmonem Almarzooqi paid a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa in Dubai this Wednesday.

He revealed his organisation is keen to partner with Zimbabwe in agriculture, particularly in the growing of blueberries.

“We are discussing opportunities in food security, agriculture, and livestock, our team visited Zimbabwe and looked for opportunities. We are looking at blueberry farming, he offered us the land to grow the berries. We will come to see the land very soon, we are interested in Zimbabwe for two reasons, you’re in the southern part so we want to take advantage of your season and your soil and weather which you have are good for crops,” said Dr Almarzooqi.

President Mnangagwa is in Dubai where he was attending the World Governments Summit.
