PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has consoled the people of India following the death of over 200 people in a plane crash that occurred this Thursday in the western part of the country.
The London-bound Air India plane carrying 242 people crashed shortly after take-off in Ahmeda-bad, Western India, early Thursday.
President Mnangagwa took to his X handle to express his deepest sympathy to the government and people of the Republic of India.
He said Zimbabwe stands in solidarity with the Indian nation during this time of mourning, adding that Zimbabweans’ thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and those injured.
“I extend my deepest sympathies to the government and people of the Republic of India following the tragic plane crash of Flight 171. Zimbabwe stands in solidarity with the Indian nation during this time of mourning. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families, and we wish a swift and full recovery to the injured,” he said.
Indian police chief confirmed that 204 bodies have so far been recovered, and it is not yet clear how many of the victims were on the plane or on the ground when the plane crashed.
The police also said one passenger survived and is a British national.
The London-bound Air India plane was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, one Canadian and seven Portuguese nationals, as well as two pilots and 10 cabin crew members.
