PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to visit Mbungo Estates in Masvingo Province, where he will join at least 200 000 congregants from the Zion Christian Church gathered for their Easter Conference, this Sunday.
The Easter pilgrimage, which has become one of the largest religious gatherings in the country, draws worshippers from across Zimbabwe and the region, reflecting the church’s growing influence and strong following.
Led by Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi, the Zion Christian Church continues to play a significant role in national development.
The church has established itself as a key partner in improving livelihoods through its vast investments in agriculture, particularly in Masvingo Province, where it is counted among the major contributors to food production.
Beyond agriculture, the church has made notable strides in the education sector, running numerous schools across the country, while also expanding its footprint in the tourism and health services sectors that complement government efforts toward Vision 2030.
President Mnangagwa’s visit underscores the strong collaboration between the government and indigenous churches, which are increasingly being recognised for their role in community development, social cohesion, and economic empowerment.
The gathering is also expected to emphasise values of unity, peace, and self-reliance, which resonate with the country’s broader development agenda.
