POLICE in Harare have intensified patrols and deployed drone technology to curb criminal activity and road traffic accidents during the Easter and Independence holidays.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police said the security measures are part of a broader strategy to ensure public safety across the capital, with both human and technological resources being deployed.

In a recent interview with ZBC News, Officer Commanding Harare Province, Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru, confirmed the developments, highlighting the introduction of advanced monitoring systems to complement traditional policing methods.

“In terms of curbing crime, which is our core mandate, we have deployed adequate personnel in all areas to enhance police visibility. We have also rejuvenated cycle patrol units, intensified motorised patrols, and will deploy horse patrols and the canine unit.

“In addition, surveillance systems and drones will be utilised throughout the holiday period to monitor activities and deter crime,” Commissioner Chikunguru said.
