Over 900 young athletes participate in NAPH games

Story by Mhlomuli Ncube

OVER 900 athletes are taking part in the National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) games underway in the mining town of Hwange.

With each of the country’s ten provinces contributing 91 athletes, there is excitement at the field and track competitions.

The young athletes are equally grateful for the opportunity to shine at the annual tournament.

“I trained hard before I came here, this is important for me as a young person,” an athlete said.

NAPH has commended schools taking part for adhering to competition regulations.

“We want our participants to appreciate that this event is not about competition, but also a chance to tap into our grassroots talent base. We are happy with the way NAPH is growing,” NAPH’s National Vice President George Nkonde said.

The young athletes competing at the games are drawn from the country’s 10 provinces, amid a commitment to harness talent at the local level.
