CHURCHES continue to play a critical role in Zimbabwe’s national development agenda by promoting peace, moral values, social cohesion and community empowerment, while complementing government efforts through infrastructure development and humanitarian programmes.
The sentiments were echoed by the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe president, Reverend Cosam Chiangwa, who underscored the Church’s role in driving national development through peace, unity and spiritual devotion.
Reverend Chiangwa said the church has launched a fundraising initiative to raise US$1 million for the completion of its flagship Mufaro Conference Centre.
“The fundraising initiative seeks to raise US$1 million, with proceeds earmarked for the completion of the church’s flagship conference facility, which is expected to host large-scale religious gatherings, leadership conferences and community development programmes,” he said.
The church said the conference centre will enhance its capacity to host programmes that promote spiritual growth, family values, youth empowerment and peaceful coexistence, while also providing a venue for national and regional events.
AFM in Zimbabwe Chairlady, Mrs Miriam Chiangwa said women in the church are committed to supporting national development in line with the Second Republic’s development agenda.
“As women, we are empowering ourselves through hard work and aligning our vision with the President’s mantra, Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo,” she said.
Better Brands Managing Director Mr Michael Mangondoza said sustainable national development requires strong partnerships between churches and the private sector.
“Working hand in hand enables the successful delivery of community infrastructure, empowers vulnerable groups and promotes peace, unity and shared prosperity. Such collaborations complement the country’s broader development agenda,” he said.
Once completed, the Mufaro Conference Centre’s main auditorium is expected to serve as a hub for worship, leadership training, conferences and community programmes, further strengthening the Church’s contribution to national development.
