CHAPUNGU Queens remain top of the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League after Matchday 14, maintaining a two-point lead over defending champions Herentals Queens as the title race tightens.
The league leaders secured a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Harare City to move to 32 points from 13 matches.
Chapungu’s title challenge has been built on a solid defence, with the side conceding just five goals while scoring 39 to boast the league’s best goal difference.
Herentals Queens kept the pressure on with a convincing 4-1 win over Kwekwe Queens to remain second on 30 points.
They are level on points with Black Rhinos Queens, who edged Chegutu Community Queens 1-0 away from home to stay firmly in contention.
Correctional Queens also strengthened their title credentials with a 2-1 victory over Mpopoma Sports Academy to move to 29 points, while Platinum Royals completed the top five after beating CAPS United Royals 3-0 to reach 28 points.
Just four points separate the top five teams, setting up a closely contested run-in to the championship.
At the bottom of the table, Rufaro Starlets Academy boosted their survival hopes with a 1-0 away win over Cranborne Royals to move to 13 points.
However, they remain in the relegation battle alongside Conduit Academy, Faith Drive Academy, Cranborne Royals, CAPS United Royals, Chegutu Community Queens and bottom-placed Ngezi Platinum Queens, who are still searching for their first win of the season with just three points from 13 matches.
