MORE than 150 buses carrying Malawian, Zimbabwean and Zambian migrants are expected to pass through the Beitbridge Border Post in Musina, Limpopo, on Tuesday amid a surge in repatriation movements.
The Border Management Authority (BMA) has moved to reinforce border operations, with Assistant Commissioner Dr Nkhuliseni Luvhengo confirming the deployment of additional immigration officers and border guards from nearby ports of entry to manage processing procedures.
According to the South African government, more than 20 000 migrants have been repatriated since a wave of protests began earlier this year.
The United Nations says it is monitoring the situation in South Africa and engaging authorities on developments related to migration and repatriation processes.
