New classroom block and sports arena commissioned at Kwekwe Primary

KWEKWE Primary School has received a significant infrastructure boost following the commissioning of a new classroom block and a modern multi-purpose sports arena, delivered through a partnership between the school and surrounding communities.

For years, families in Newtown, Msasa and nearby suburbs have struggled with limited classroom space, forcing pupils to attend lessons for only a few hours each day. The new facilities are expected to reduce congestion, extend learning time and provide expanded opportunities in both academics and sport.

The investment has been widely welcomed by residents who view it as a practical response to long-standing challenges.

“The construction of Kwekwe Primary School dovetails with the United Nations SDG number 4 on ensuring access to quality, inclusive, and equitable education regardless of gender or disability and the NDS1 pillar on human capital development and innovation,” a community member said.

“We are happy that the Second Republic is walking the talk and leaving no one and no place behind in its developmental programmes. This is one of its promises and we are grateful for this, and for sure, it will reduce the problems we were encountering as learners,” a learner said.

“This move complements the government’s Heritage-based Education model because it supports the will and move for learners to be hands-on. If a child here fails in the class, he or she has a chance in the sports field, which is a good move. Our school has done a very good job because it will reduce levels of mischief from children,” a parent said.

Government welcomed the development, stressing the importance of upgrading school infrastructure to improve educational outcomes.

“By fostering an environment that values modern technological competencies, we are preparing our students to become informed, innovative, and responsible citizens ready to navigate the complexities of the global landscape while proudly carrying forward their heritage and as a government, we are supporting infrastructure development because it lays the foundation of a brighter future for our learners,” Midlands Minister of State for Provincial affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube said.

Government, under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has placed strong emphasis on education as a driver of national development, aligning with Vision 2030 goals.
