SOME schools in Gokwe North district are undergoing some massive upgrades with new buildings under construction at various stages of completion ahead of the independence celebrations.
The hosting of the national independence celebrations in Gokwe North district has come as a blessing to students in the district, as some of the schools are undergoing some massive transformation.
While most schools have had the privilege of setting up village business units, it is Nyamuroro Primary and Nembudziya Secondary Schools which have emerged as big beneficiaries after new structures have been erected at the institutions.
At Nembudziya Secondary School, the government is working on five new buildings, while Nyamuroro Primary School, which will host the children’s party, is witnessing the building of new dormitories.
“At Nembudziya secondary we are building five new buildings. We are building an administration block and classroom blocks. We are almost at roofing level and all roofing materials are now there. At Nyamuroro primary, we have some dormitories under construction. Again there is massive progress as this is where our students who will come for the children’s party will camp. We are also sprucing up the existing buildings for the occasion,” the Chief Director in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, Engineer Trevor Magwaza said.
The community is excited by the progress being witnessed in their locality.
“We have always dreamt of having an administration block at our school. It was a long-term process and due to the independence celebrations we are now witnessing these developments,” the Deputy Head at Nembudziya Secondary School, Mrs Estheri Mbavha said.
“We are witnessing a number of projects here. Roads are being rehabilitated. Schools are having solarised boreholes being installed, Gokwe will never be the same again,” Chairperson for ZANU PF, Midlands Province, Cde Edison Chiherenge said.
“Our school will never be the same again. We are enjoying the progress happening and I am told after the progress, the school will cut on hot sitting which might translate to a higher pass rate,” a learner said.
The choice of hosting independence celebrations in the Gokwe North district has also stimulated business activities at Mutora business centre.
This year’s independence celebrations are being held under the theme, “Zim @45, devolve and develop together towards vision 2030.
