A man from Harare has been remanded in custody after allegedly raping his 15-year-old daughter in a case that has since been referred to the High Court for a bail application.

The accused, whose identity cannot be disclosed to protect the minor, is alleged to have committed the offence in May 2024 while the girl’s stepmother was away from home. It is the State’s case that he allegedly took advantage of the situation and raped the teenager.

The court further heard that after the incident, the accused gave the complainant US$1 and instructed her not to reveal what had happened.

The complainant reportedly confided in her aunt about the alleged abuse soon after the incident, but no action was taken at the time.

According to court documents, the situation allegedly escalated in September 2025 when the accused is said to have asked the girl to enter into a romantic relationship with him. When she refused, he allegedly threatened to stop paying her school fees.

The matter came to light last month when the complainant confided in her teacher, prompting the case to be reported to Childline Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Republic Police at Marimba Police Station.

A medical report has since been attached to the docket as part of the investigations.

The accused appeared in court and was remanded in custody.
