Ezimnyama Dance Ensemble celebrates 16 years of promoting traditional dance on global stages

BULAWAYO-based multi-award-winning dance group, Ezimnyama Dance Ensemble, has been in the arts scene for 16 years and continues to showcase Zimbabwe’s rich cultural diversity.

With the goal of becoming the best traditional and cultural dance group in the country, Ezimnyama Dance Ensemble continues to showcase its artistic prowess in traditional dance by communicating messages that affect people on a day-to-day basis.

“We formed this group in 2009, with one of the main aims of the group being the communication of everyday messages that affect people of different cultures,” The group’s Founder and Director, Phibion Ncube said.

Being a dance group with members ranging in age from 17 to 32 years, the ensemble’s speciality in African and contemporary dance routines has made it one of the most well-travelled groups.

The group has been to a number of countries across the globe, showcasing the country’s rich cultural diversity.

“We have been to France and Spain, where we are selling the beauty of our culture through dance,” Ncube noted.

The popular arts outfit harnesses dance to display the beauty of African dance moves.

“I joined this dance group because I loved the way it captures our culture through dance moves,” Group member Dadirai Mupandawana said.

The multi-award-winning dance ensemble has performed in European countries which include Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland.
