Dr Nguwaya takes up Presidential waste management advisory role

PRESIDENT Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Geo Pomona Waste Management Company Executive Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya, as Special Advisor to the President on Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability.

In a statement, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya said the appointment recognises Dr Nguwaya’s outstanding contribution to environmental stewardship, recycling, the circular economy and sustainable waste management.

Dr Rushwaya said Dr Nguwaya has demonstrated visionary leadership in overseeing Geo Pomona Waste Management Company, delivering significant environmental, social and economic benefits.

Among the achievements cited are the expansion of waste collection through door-to-door residential refuse collection, the installation of skip bins across Harare’s central business district, the strengthening of recycling systems, and the creation of employment opportunities for youths and women.

Dr Rushwaya said the appointment will provide the Presidency with direct access to practical expertise and strategic guidance on national waste management and environmental sustainability.
