Government, parliament push for increased green investment

Story by Memory Chamisa.

A Parliamentary Green Investment Dialogue and National Capacity Building programme is underway in Harare, with stakeholders focusing on scaling up climate finance and accelerating Zimbabwe’s transition to a green, climate-resilient economy.

The dialogue comes as Government, development partners and financial institutions intensify efforts to unlock investment in renewable energy and green industrial projects.

Participants noted that strengthening the role of Members of Parliament in approving national budgets, enacting climate legislation and providing regulatory oversight is critical to attracting green investment and closing the climate finance gap.

As Zimbabwe shifts from climate planning to implementation, the dialogue is examining priority investment opportunities, identifying implementation bottlenecks and building consensus on the policy, regulatory and financing reforms needed to unlock greater climate finance.
