ZIMBABWEAN and Zambian filmmakers are forging new creative partnerships through the Creatives Connect Africa initiative currently being held in Ghana, with a major collaborative film project already underway between the two neighbouring nations.
The collaboration was confirmed by Zimbabwean actor and filmmaker Munyaradzi Chidzonga, who said the platform had provided an opportunity for creatives from across the continent to explore co-production, networking and shared solutions to industry challenges.
“The whole energy behind Creatives Connect Africa is to bring people together from across the continent so that they can find synergies, co-productions and collaborations. I had to laugh because it took us two days to get here because of the connectivity system, but during that time, I met a Zambian filmmaker who works in Lusaka and in Nigeria. We connected and found we have a common interest in film and we have similar challenges being of the same region. So, we decided to collaborate and are working on a film together, a collaboration between Zimbabwe and Zambia and we are going to distribute it in both countries,” Chidzonga said.
Zambian actress and filmmaker, Chadzanso Mwenda expressed excitement about the partnership, highlighting the natural connection between the two nations and promising significant output in 2026.
“We are super excited about this collaboration. Zambia and Zimbabwe are basically siblings. This will open doors for actors from both countries to work together. Our partnership is about taking on the region and showcasing our countries. 2026 is already lined up with projects; we are coming in strong.”
The collaboration marks a significant step in regional creative integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework, demonstrating the Second Republic’s commitment to strengthening cultural ties and economic cooperation across Africa.
