Champion of Champions Cup; regional kings face off in season finale

THE stage is set for a thrilling showdown as champions of Zimbabwe’s four Division One leagues converge for the prestigious Champion of Champions Cup at Bata Stadium in Gweru this weekend.

The inaugural Champion of Champions Cup will etch its name in the annals of Zimbabwean football history as four Division One league champions battle for supremacy.

The Central region will host the two-day tournament with Kwekwe United entertaining Scottland who won the Northern region, ZPC Hwange from the Southern region and Eastern region champions Triangle United.

Central Region vice chairperson Thomas Marambanyika said, “The tournament is meant to provide a platform for football fans to appreciate and enjoy the quality and competitiveness of division one leagues which are a figure to elite Premier Soccer League and it also gives an opportunity to teams to identify areas that need to be improved.”

Central Region Champions, Kwekwe United’s modest approach will be put to test against a more flamboyant Scottland.

ZPC Hwange, the dominant force in the Southern Region, will also parade their stars on the grand stage.

Eastern Region Division One league champions Triangle United, will be riding on a host of seasoned players, including midfielder Thabani Kamusoko.

The semi-finals kick off this Saturday, with Kwekwe United facing Triangle United while Scottland take on ZPC Hwange.

The third place play-off and the final will be played on Sunday.
