THE Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill has sailed through Parliament after the National Assembly adopted amendments by the Senate, with 226 legislators voting in favour of the bill, while just 41 opposed it.
The development follows an overwhelming vote by the Senate, where 75 Senators voted in favour of the Bill, with only four opposing it last week.
Before the bill was sent to senate last week, the National Assembly had seen 216 legislators voting for the bill, while 42 were against it.
After sailing through parliament, the Bill will be transmitted to President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa for assent.
The Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Honourable Ziyambi Ziyambi described the whole process as democratic.
Honourable Ziyambi said Zimbabweans must be patient as the Bill will be transmitted to the President for his signature.
The Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill process took approximately 140 days since the adoption of the Bill by Cabinet on February 10.
The Bill seeks, among other things, to extend the electoral cycle for the President, Legislators and Councillors from five to seven years, use a parliamentary process to elect the President while giving him powers to appoint ten more senators in consultation with Parliament.
