ZIMBABWE produced an efficient and ruthless all-round performance to crush Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs on the third day of the one-off Test at Harare Sports Club this Tuesday.
This saw the Chevrons securing their biggest-ever Test victory and back-to-back innings wins for the first time in their history.
The Chevrons completed the emphatic triumph inside three days, with their pace attack once again proving too hot to handle after dismissing Bangladesh for 185 in their second innings.
Premier fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani led the charge with six wickets, same as Newman Nyamhuri while captain Richard Ngarava claimed five, with Brad Evans picking up three as the seamers took all the wickets.
“Great display all round; the little steps of having a player sort of owning the day we had Newman Nyamhuri, Innocent Kaia and Blessing Muzarabani. This has taken us where we are, getting the victory and we hope we will continue on that path,” Ngarava said.
The victory was built on a dominant display with both bat and ball.
After bowling Bangladesh out for 140 in the first innings, Zimbabwe responded with 410, anchored by Innocent Kaia’s maiden Test century and valuable half-centuries from Brian Bennett, Craig Ervine and Wessly Madhevere.
Bangladesh never recovered from the massive first-innings deficit as Zimbabwe’s relentless pace attack wrapped up the match in the second session on day three, sealing a famous victory that followed their innings triumph over Afghanistan in their previous Test.
