TEAM Zimbabwe has turned its focus to winning medals at the Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Games, which get underway in Gaborone, Botswana, this evening.
The Zimbabwean delegation has arrived safely in Botswana and is completing the accreditation process ahead of the official opening ceremony on Monday evening.
With preparations entering the final phase, the athletes are settling into the competition environment as they target strong performances across the various sporting disciplines.
“We are happy to have arrived safely. Our focus now is on representing Zimbabwe well and winning medals,” said one athlete.
Another athlete said: “Our stay has been good so far. Now it is all about competing and making sure we perform well in our different sporting disciplines.”
Meanwhile, Local Organising Committee Public Relations Officer, Tiro Otimile, said all was in place for the opening ceremony, which will celebrate both sporting excellence and the cultural diversity of the participating nations.
“We are ready for the big night. The Minister of Higher Education will be our guest of honour, and the participating countries will showcase their cultural dances during the ceremony,” he said.
Seven countries are taking part in this year’s CUCSA Games, with the tournament expected to promote sporting excellence while strengthening regional integration among tertiary institutions.
