AUTHORITIES have recovered human remains believed to belong to a man who was fatally attacked by a crocodile at Mpopoma Dam earlier this month.

The remains were discovered during the dissection of a crocodile suspected to have attacked the victim while fishing at the dam on May 1.

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) spokesperson, Mr Luckmore Safuli, confirmed the development and expressed condolences to the deceased’s family.

“We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and associates of the deceased during this difficult time,” said Mr Safuli.

“We continue to urge members of the public to exercise extreme caution when near water bodies known to harbour crocodiles and other dangerous animals.”

Following the attack, ZimParks, working with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and other stakeholders, launched a search operation for the missing man and the reptile believed to have been involved.

The crocodile was tracked down, shot and recovered on 23 May before being dissected, leading to the recovery of the human remains.
Police in Matopo attended the scene to verify and formally document the findings.

ZimParks has since urged communities to avoid swimming, fishing or collecting water in unsafe areas, particularly during the early morning and evening when crocodile activity is at its peak.
