TEENAGER Mykayla Makwabarara ensured Zimbabwe ended the 17th Africa Aquatics Championship in Algeria on a high note after securing a gold medal in the junior women’s 50 metres freestyle this Saturday.

Makwabarara powered to victory in impressive fashion, while fellow Zimbabwean Alexis Johnsen claimed silver in the same event to complete a memorable outing for the country in the pool.

Seniors Anje Van As and Paige Van der Westhuizen were not to be outdone as they scooped a silver and bronze, respectively, in the 200m individual medley.

The four medals took Zimbabwe’s final tally at the continental championships to 11 medals overall.

The team returns home with three gold medals, five silver medals and three bronze medals after a strong showing against the continent’s top swimmers.
