THE Second Republic is enhancing social safety nets after the commissioning of two cluster houses at Shekinah Glory Children’s Home, in a development set to alleviate accommodation challenges at the institution.
This development is seen as more than charity, but a strategic investment in national development through child welfare while also nurturing a generation equipped with education, mentorship, and moral guidance.
“We are grateful for this development at this institution. Prior to this development, these children were faced with a lot of challenges, among them was the issue of accommodation. This was a thorn in the flesh for the kids,” a community member said.
“Many young people are losing their future through drugs and harmful influences. Every child deserves a future, and when we educate and support orphans, we are investing in the next generation and building a stronger society,” another noted.
Shekinah Glory Director Dr Juliet Bvekwa emphasised the importance of safeguarding children’s welfare as both a humanitarian duty and a cornerstone for Zimbabwe’s long-term growth.
“Our work is funded through cash and in-kind donations from supporters locally and in the diaspora and getting this kind of support will play a crucial role in alleviating accommodation challenges at this institution. Our commitment to community development extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by our impactful initiatives.”
Government expressed commitment to enhancing social welfare programmes under the inclusive development approach.
“The Government of Zimbabwe has always been caring for children and will continue to do so as it is constitutionally mandated to do so. The government, through the Department of Social Welfare, has programmes that include BEAM that caters for fees for the less privileged,” Zvishavane District Development Coordinator, Mr Darlington Chokera stated.
Established 10 years ago, Shekinah Glory Children’s Home seeks to develop children to their full potential and facilitate their transition into productive and responsible members of society.
