‘Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill a catalyst for sports infrastructure development’

STAKEHOLDERS in Zimbabwe’s sporting sector have expressed strong support for the proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill, saying it will help ensure continuity in long-term sports development programmes and infrastructure projects.

They argue that sustained policy implementation is essential for transforming the country’s sporting landscape, particularly in the modernisation of facilities and the expansion of opportunities for young athletes.

Organisations such as ZIMSPORTS 4ED and Coaches 4ED say the Bill would provide the stability needed to see major initiatives through to completion.

ZIMSPORTS 4ED National Vice Chairman, Cde Benedict Ncube said continuity in leadership would allow development programmes to progress without interruption.

“We are in support of CAB3 as it gives us time to continue with our focus on development rather than shifting attention to elections. In sport, we already have major initiatives underway, such as the launch of the Munhumutapa Cup by the President. Continuity will ensure such projects continue to provide platforms for our young athletes to showcase their talents,” he said.

Coaches 4ED committee member Evans Gwekwerere echoed the sentiment, saying policy stability is crucial for long-term success.

“CAB3 is an added advantage for us because it minimises disruptions to long-term initiatives. With consistent leadership, projects that benefit sports development will continue uninterrupted,” he said.

The Bill is also seen as complementing broader national efforts to upgrade sporting infrastructure across Zimbabwe.

Key projects currently underway include the refurbishment of the National Sports Stadium, the development of a cricket stadium in Victoria Falls, and the construction of new sporting facilities in Mt Hampden.

Supporters say these investments are critical to enhancing Zimbabwe’s capacity to host international events, nurture talent and strengthen the country’s sporting competitiveness.

They maintain that policy continuity under CAB3 would provide the certainty needed to sustain momentum and fully realise Zimbabwe’s sporting ambitions.
