ZIMBABWEAN female entrepreneurs have been rallied to move beyond start-ups and build resilient, scalable businesses that drive economic growth and social transformation.
This was the key message at the Zimbabwe Women in Business Forum and Awards 2026 held in Harare this Thursday.
Held during Women’s Month, the forum served as both a moment of reflection and a call to reimagine the future of women in business.
This year’s theme, “From Startup to Scale-up: Strategy for Business Growth,” is pushing a powerful shift in mindset from simply starting to building businesses that last, grow and make an impact.
Guest of Honour, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, said every successful enterprise begins with an idea, passion and a desire to solve a problem.
“As women entrepreneurs, your unique perspectives, resilience, community-centred approach and deep understanding of local challenges are your greatest assets. When well channelled, your contribution to the business community can significantly improve society,” she said.
She emphasised the importance of building strong foundations for sustainable growth.
“The journey from planning to execution must be supported by strong fundamentals. Strategic business management is not a one-time activity, but an ongoing process that guides growth,” she added.
At the heart of it all is the vision to leave no woman behind.
Zimbabwe Women in Business Forum and Awards Chief Executive Officer, Ms Shama Nyamadzawo, said the organisation is committed to inclusivity and empowerment across all sectors.
“The Zimbabwe Women in Business Forum is a platform designed to equip, train and connect women in business across Zimbabwe, including those in the diaspora. Our aim is to bring together women from micro, informal and formal sectors so they can learn how to operate compliantly, register their businesses and grow sustainably,” she said.
She added that the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between informal and formal entrepreneurship.
“Our motto is inclusivity. We do not discriminate. We want every woman in business to network, access knowledge and grow their enterprises,” she said.
From manufacturing to real estate, agriculture to retail, the awards celebrate women who are turning ideas into impact and challenges into opportunities.
The event recognised entrepreneurs who have demonstrated consistency, resilience and growth in scaling their businesses.
One of the winners, Ms Paidamoyo Mazarura, said the recognition was both inspiring and affirming.
“This award is amazing. It shows that women are uplifting each other and helping one another shine. In the construction industry, being recognised is a great honour.”
Another award recipient, Ms Everjoy Vhezha, said the recognition was especially meaningful in a male-dominated sector.
“The security sector is male-dominated. I feel very great and honoured to receive such an award.
Sarudzai Gahadzikwa said the recognition was rewarding and motivating.
“I am elated and grateful. It is rewarding to be recognised for the work we are doing in saving lives.”
As the curtains came down on this year’s forum, one message was clear: Zimbabwean women are no longer just starting businesses; they are building enterprises.
The message resonates that when women rise, industries grow, communities thrive, and the nation moves forward.
