ZANU-PF’s Masvingo Province has endorsed the proposed Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill of 2026, describing it as a key step in strengthening governance and enhancing national stability.

The position was adopted during a Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting held on Friday, where party leaders deliberated on the recently gazetted Bill.

Provincial Chairman Robson Mavhenyengwa said the province was satisfied with the progress made on the proposed amendments.

“As a party in Masvingo Province, we are happy with the progress that has been made pertaining to the amendment of the Constitution Number 3 Bill of 2026. Remember, some of the proposals were raised by our party, and we are happy that implementation is taking shape,” he said.

He added that the province would now mobilise grassroots structures to explain the proposed changes.

“As a province, we are fully behind this amendment, and through this meeting, we were discussing that it’s high time we go to the grassroots and inform our people of these developments,” he said.

Politburo member Lovemore Matuke said constitutional amendments were lawful and necessary where circumstances demand.

“We are the ones who came up with this Constitution, and again, we are allowed to make necessary adjustments whenever it is necessary. Let us not be deceived into thinking that the Constitution cannot be amended,” he said.

He added that similar provisions exist in other jurisdictions and argued that the proposed changes would strengthen governance structures.

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Masvingo Province, Ezra Chadzamira, linked support for the Bill to ongoing development projects in the province.

“Masvingo Province has recorded significant development across various sectors, with some projects still underway. For continuity, policy consistency and completion of these initiatives, it is important that we support this Bill,” he said.

The Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill of 2026 proposes, among other reforms, extending Presidential and Parliamentary terms from five to seven years.
