RESIDENTS of Murombedzi in Zvimba District, Mashonaland West Province, have welcomed the construction of the Robert Mugabe Clinic, a new health facility expected to strengthen service delivery in the rural community.
The clinic, located near Murombedzi growth point, is set to improve access to healthcare for residents and surrounding areas, reducing the need for long-distance travel to access basic medical services.
Local resident Mrs Chiedza Muchakachi described the development as a major relief, particularly for women. “This clinic is a major relief for us, especially as women who carry the responsibility of caring for our families. We used to travel long distances to access maternity services, immunisations and basic treatment, which was costly and time-consuming. Now, having a health facility closer to home will reduce transport costs, save time and ensure that pregnant women and young children receive medical attention without delay. It brings dignity and convenience to our community,” she said.
Another resident, Mr Moreblessing Mhizha, said the clinic would offer comprehensive services under one roof. “We are delighted that this clinic is designed to provide comprehensive, one-stop health services with various clinical departments under one roof. This will greatly benefit our children who are pursuing short courses such as nurse aide training, as they will gain practical exposure within their community. We are also encouraged that vulnerable members of society will have access to free health services, which promotes equality and social protection,” he noted.
Beyond healthcare, the project has also created employment opportunities for local youths.
Local builder Mr Effort Matatu said the initiative had provided both income and purpose. “The employment opportunities created by this project are helping many young people in our area. When youths are engaged in meaningful work, it reduces idleness and the temptation to abuse drugs. This initiative has given many of us a source of income and a renewed sense of purpose. We appreciate this development because it is not only building a clinic, but it is also building livelihoods,” he said.
The project is spearheaded by philanthropist Mr Jimayi Muduvuri, who said community-driven development was key to national progress.
“A country is built by its own people. I previously constructed a hospital in Kadoma and ten clinics across the country because I believe development must start with us. This project is in line with the call by President Emmerson Mnangagwa that every citizen has a role to play in national development. The naming of this clinic seeks to preserve the history and legacy of the late nationalist and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe. Under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, the country continues to make developmental strides, and as the business community, we support the attainment of Vision 2030,” he said.
The Robert Mugabe Clinic has been named in honour of the late former President in recognition of his contribution to Zimbabwe’s development.
