THE Zvishavane business community has partnered with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in a collaborative effort to curb crime in the area, underscoring a shared commitment to community safety.
As part of efforts to promote a crime-free society during the festive season and beyond, businesses from Zvishavane and Mberengwa Districts have handed over a newly constructed police apartment and dog kennels at Zvishavane Police Station to enhance policing operations.
The initiative by the local community has been attributed to the Second Republic’s mantra of Nyika Inovakwa Nevene vayo/ Ilizwe lakiwa ngabanikazi balo.
“We are obliged to assist the police force to improve their welfare and working conditions. These collective efforts are expected to create the community we want. A community should be crime-free,” a business owner said.
“Some of the community membership may as well double as neighbourhood watch committee members in their respective areas of residence. These initiatives are for BAFCOZ. We are emulating our President’s vision of leaving no one and no place behind,” a community member said.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Zimbabwe Republic Police Officer Commanding Midlands Province, Assistant Commissioner Partson Nyabadza, underscored the need for collective action, especially during the festive season.
“Let us give a round of applause to the Zvishavane business community, district CLC and local police command for joining hands for this purposeful project, which will go a long way in combating crime in Zvishavane district. This collaboration between the ZRP and the business community exemplifies the power of partnership. May I emphatically mention that the police are already firm on the ground, ensuring that there is sanity in the CBD, residential area, and on our roads to reduce road carnage during this festive season and beyond,” he said.
The development comes amid increased traffic volumes and population movement as residents travel, shop, and attend social gatherings, a period historically marked by a spike in road accidents, various forms of crime, and substance abuse.
